Todos Santos day trips from Los Cabos: drive time, cost and whether it is worth it
Todos Santos is a 60 to 75 minute drive north of Cabo San Lucas on Highway 19, and guided day trips cost $80–$150 per person for six to eight hours. It is a Pueblo Mágico with a genuine art scene, and it is the single best day trip out of Los Cabos — but only if you want galleries and lunch, not a beach.

Todos Santos sits on the Pacific side of the peninsula about 50 miles north of Cabo San Lucas, an easy hour on a good road. It was a sugar town, then it was nothing, and for the last thirty years it has been an artists' colony that Mexico designated a Pueblo Mágico in 2006.
The centre is four or five walkable blocks: the 1733 Mission church, a dozen serious galleries, a handful of very good restaurants, and the Hotel California, which trades on a song it has nothing to do with.
Most tours pair Todos Santos with a stop at the Tropic of Cancer marker or a glass-blowing workshop. The good ones give you two hours free in town; the bad ones give you forty minutes and a shopping stop.
Best based in Todos Santos. Season: Year-round; best October–May.
Todos Santos day trips in Los Cabos: common questions
How far is Todos Santos from Cabo San Lucas?
About 50 miles, or 60 to 75 minutes by car on Highway 19. From San José del Cabo it is closer to 90 minutes.
Is the Hotel California in Todos Santos the one from the song?
No. The Eagles have publicly stated there is no connection, and the hotel was not named until long after the song. It is a pleasant hotel and bar; the story is marketing.
Can you swim at Todos Santos beaches?
Not safely. The Pacific beaches around Todos Santos — Los Cerritos excepted for surfing — have strong rip currents, heavy shore break and no lifeguards. Los Cerritos is the one beach commonly used for surf lessons.
