Sea of Cortez side only; never the Pacific side

El Arco is the rock arch at Land's End, the southernmost tip of the Baja peninsula, where the Sea of Cortez meets the Pacific. It is the image on every Los Cabos brochure and it is genuinely worth seeing up close.

Lover's Beach sits in a notch just inside the arch, a sandbar with water on both sides. The Sea of Cortez side is calm, shallow and swimmable. The Pacific side, universally called Divorce Beach, has a violent shore break and a rip current, no lifeguard, and a real fatality record.

Water taxis leave continuously from the Cabo San Lucas marina and from Medano Beach. There is no schedule and no ticket office — you negotiate at the dock.

Best based in Cabo San Lucas. Season: Year-round; Arch passable at low tide only.
